Title
Rescuing Ghosts from the Shadows: Montague Rhodes James and his Curiously Converging Imaginations
Description
Montague Rhodes James (1862-1936)\1/ is best known to scholars of early and medieval Christianity for his many publications of relatively obscure texts and related details, and especially his influential anthology The Apocryphal New Testament (1924), portions of which are still widely available on the web.\2/ Earlier, in 1920, he published the less well-known but similarly valuable The Lost Apocrypha of the Old Testament: their Titles and Fragments Collected, Translated and Discussed.\3/ In these collections, the mature author accomplished somewhat of a compromise between his technical scholarly works and his more popular fictional endeavors for which he had a reputation then, and is especially famous today, particularly in internet circles
